We asked Pat Cleary to explain what he thought the benefits of being in a farmers’ cooperative were. Here’s what he said:
"Being part of a cooperative is a huge help, as it means we can purchase our materials from the cooperative at a reduced rate. As well as buying our feed from the cooperative, we also buy other things that we need, such as gates and fences for the farm.
I’m chairman of a local farmer discussion group. We meet up once a month to discuss the challenges we are facing and share our ideas – it’s a really useful way to learn from other farmers’ experiences, and we all help each other out wherever we can."
