- Keep it simple - do not over complicate your food. When it comes to a picnic, it is often the easiest food that works the best.
- Finger food, such as sausage rolls, pork pies and chicken drumsticks generally work well.
- Keep your food cool - remember that some food doesn’t travel well in hot conditions. Use a cool bag, and pack plenty of ice packs.
- Mix things up - use a variety of different bread to keep your sandwiches interesting. Try pitta bread, focaccia, baguettes and wraps. Don’t forget the Kerrygold butter though!
- For healthy snacks, try taking some hummus or salsa dips, along with some crunchy carrot, celery, cucumber or peppers.
- Choose your food wisely - avoid food that will get crushed easily, such as sloppy desserts - choose robust items such as flapjacks and brownies.
- Keep bugs at bay - spray insect repellent around your chosen area, to stop pests ruining your fun.
- Don’t forget the fun - pack plenty of games to keep everyone entertained - try frisbees, balls and badminton sets - they should be enough to keep everyone happy!
- Remember the essentials - no picnic is complete without a picnic blanket (or two if it is a big group), plastic cups and plates, and some plastic cutlery.
- Once everything is ready for your picnic you can pick your location. Find a suitable spot, and enjoy!
- Remember you don’t always have to travel far - a picnic can be fun even in your own back garden.
- Finally, once you have finished, make sure you take all your rubbish away with you.
